- Conditions for discounted tickets:
- A valid foreign passport (Non-U.S. or Non-Canadian) is required to purchase discounted tickets.
- Travel must end by March 31st, 2009.
- Rates are in U.S. dollars and for coach class travel.
- It is valid for all Amtrak trains except the Acela Express.
- These discounted tickets are created for international travelers to enjoy economical leisure travel. Amtrak station agents may deny the boarding of a passenger if these tickets are being used for commuting or business purposes.
- Blackout dates for discounted tickets:
- Discounted tickets are not available for the following dates (Higher fares may be available for these dates.):
Year 2008: 8/29, 9/1, 11/25~26, 11/29~30, 12/1, 12/19~21, 12/26~28
Year 2009: 1/3~4, 2/13, 2/16 - Children's Fares:
- 50% discount for child (ages 2-15 years old). Child must be accompanied by a full-fare paying adult. (Maximum 2 children per 1 adult.)
- Children under 2 years old ride free.
- Cancellations:
- Un-used tickets are refundable until 30 days after the purchase date.
- 50% refund fee will apply.

- What are Amtrak discount tickets?
- They are substantially discounted train tickets available only for foreign travelers visiting the Northeast region of the U.S.
- The only thing you need to buy these tickets are that you hold a valid foreign passport (Non-U.S., Non-Canadian).
- It is only available through limited travel agencies in the U.S., who have a special contract with Amtrak.
- Amtrak does not sell them directly to the public, so you will not be able to buy them from Amtrak.
